I reckon if we all have our Lance Amstrongs, Beckams, Messis or Manchester Uniteds, Thierry Henry has been that for me (although he lately shows that not all soccer players finish well when approaching retirement). I never thought I’d see him play so this was for me a significant soccer milestone.
Warm-up:
As cliche as it may sound but I really couldn’t believe it when they ran onto the pitch! It’s like “Whoa! Anelka what are you doing here!” One of the things I realised is that hey these are just dudes from across the street. Ok so they can play diski very well but still they’re just dudes. It’s like you could easily bump into one of them at Mzoli’s or the taxi rank lol! And, for me when they disappoint like Zidane and Thierry’s handball it’s a reminder to remember their just human. People can always disappoint, it’s why it helps placing hopes in God because, He’s binds Himself to His word and thus can’t disappoint. The timing for us may not seem good but He always comes thru.
Kick-Off!
The vibe was electric! Plus, it helps having guys like this French man who walks around getting fans to cheer, sing and clap.
Then came our dilemna: Although we’re here to cheer France, if they So we want to see a goal…but we didn’t. A nil - | win it’s gonna make things difficult for SA. nil score will suit SA best. |

| We might have missed the FanFest..again but we will try again hopefully for the SA vs Uruguay game on Wednesday evening. The best experience so far, for me, has been on the streets singing, dancing & blowing vuvuzelas! If only all the days between 11 June and 11 July were World Cup holidays, I’d do this everyday all the time :) |
Be sure to check out the build-up to this game here
Loving it!! I remember the hype run-up in Cape Town, it was awesome!!! Wish I could have checked a Greenpoint match...
