DIY Time: Jib Crane

First things first, let’s clear the air: a jib something like on the picture below. It helps you be able to shoot aerial and swooping shots when filming. A tool any film cannot (in my opinion) do without.

With basic setups costing anything from R5000 to R10k it’s not attractive for someone who wants to make movies for fun at low budget..wait, make that no budget.

Enter the world of DIY!

Thanks to Google and Youtube I’ve ‘researched’ some ideas and narrowed down to the simplest and cheapest DIY setup and it’s only R400…

Building it:

These are all the parts. From random wheels, pvc, fishing line and aluminium tubing the neighbours are suffering some amateur drilling noises tonight!

So far so good. Hopefully I’ve finish tonight.
