Transitions: from Ministry Partnership to UCT

Yesterday was a special day officially saying goodbye to the Ministry Partnership team after 7.5 years.

Got sent off with my favourite meal (Nando’s), cake in my favourite team and after watching Mission Impossible as a team.

Some of the lessons I learned working with this team:

From the work we did

  • Investing in people is what is of ultimate value.
  • It takes faith to serve people – it takes faith to believe the best in people beyond your preferences.
  • You have one life, give it to something significant. Life is too short

From leading a team

  • The health of the team you lead is just as important if not more than the objectives of the team
  • You are not your position
  • People know when you are using them or when they are truly valued

From watching my boss

  • It’s not what you preach, it’s what you live that people catch.
  • You can lead in your own strength or you can rely on God’s strength and do more.
  • Do just do a job, pursue your purposes in life.
  • Delegation is delegating the responsibilities plus authority
  • In all you do and your dealings with people, keep the bigger picture always in your sights.

Not easy saying goodbye but so fulfilling to see that the things we signed up for are starting to happen. It’s humbling and fulfilling to know we’ve made a difference in people’s lives throughout the world by empowering families to step into their calling and many more to support missionaries.

By far the best team I’ve ever worked with and some of my best working memories made here.
